Up and running for just over 3 and half years, Zebra Traffic has now established itself as one of the leading lights in the not-so-big world of UK Hip Hop. Initially set up by Robert Luis (also head of Tru Thoughts Records) and Simpson in 2003, the label is now consolidating and looking to build on the past 3 years of hard work. With good distribution in the UK and export partners all around the globe, the label keeps as much of it's business in-house as possible, in order to ensure long term success. Press is handled direct from the office, as is publishing, licensing and worldwide distribution.
Music-wise, the past few years have seen full artist albums from Phi-Life Cypher (Higher Forces), Dirty Diggers (Freakishly Strong), Diversion Tactics (Pubs, Drunks & Hip Hop), Life (Everyday Life & Realities Of Life), The Headcase Ladz (Get A Life) and Cappo (Spaz The World), plus a whole heap of vinyl releases and a label sampler/compilation album too (The Dugout).
2006 is set to be a big year for the label, with brand new albums from Life (Realities Of Life - out now), The Dirty Diggers, a compilation of collaborations from Phi-Life Cypher (including tracks with Skitz, DJ Vadim, Taskforce & The Herbaliser, plus brand new material) and some new signings too (look out for Rup!). In clubland, residencies have been secured in London (Cargo), Leeds (New Bohemia) and Brighton (Step Up), alongside artist shows and tours up and the country, and further a field.
Simpson remains at the hub of the Zebra Traffic machine, taking care of A&R duties, overseeing press, promotion, distribution and some DJ bookings and Tours. He presents a weekly Hip Hop Radio Show (The Dugout) on Brighton's Juice 107.2FM, plays out regularly as ZT's resident DJ and is involved in the now annual Brighton Hip Hop Festival.
