The Straight Goods DJs, Flipout & Jay Swing, have been holding down clubs, parties, concert halls, radio, and mixtapes in Vancouver and across the globe for over a decade now.
On the radio, Flip & Jay have been staples of the Vancouver airwaves since 1994 when they debuted their mix show on the University of British Columbia’s radio station CiTR 101.9fm. For the past 8 years they have held down mixshow duties on Vancouver’s Hit Music station The Beat 94.5fm’s ‘5 O’Clock Traffic Jam’, ‘10 O’Clock Hot Mix’, '12 O'Clock Hot Lunch' and ‘Straight Goods Hip-Hop Show’. In 2007 and 2008 'Straight Goods' won 'Mix Show Of The Year" at the Stylus Award for Canada's best mix show.
In the clubs, their DJ collective Those MFs (Kemo, Flip & Jay) and Los Hermanos Libre (Flip & Zak Santiago) have held residencies at Vancouver’s most legendary club nights including “El Famoso”, “Grande”, "Miami", "The Formula" and “Big Up”, the latter being voted Vancouver’s best club night for the past 5 years straight. In addition to the clubs, they have been the DJ’s of choice when music’s elite roll through town opening for the likes of Jay-Z, Nas, Kanye West, Sean Paul, Beanie Man, Snoop, Ice Cube, Wu-Tang Clan, Gangstarr, The Roots, KRS One, Rakim, De La Soul, Mos Def, N.E.R.D., Parliament and the list goes on. On top of that, they have had the honor of rocking parties along side Afrika Bambaataa, Grandmaster Flash, Red Alert, Cash Money, Kid Capri, A-Trak, Q-Bert, Mix Master Mike, DJ Jam, Shortee Blitz, Mick Boogie, Vice, Eh! Team DJs, and The Rub to name a few.
The Straight Goods Hoods are known for their vast music knowledge, versatile sets, deep record crates (mp3 crates these days), and can destroy any crowd with their mix of Hip-Hop, R&B, Funk, Soul, Dancehall, Electro, House, Disco, Rock, and whatever else they can find to throw in the mix.
