This year’s Christmas mix was made exclusively for samurai.fm. I went with this theme because over the year I am constantly amazed and continually impressed with every aspect this site. It is a small world and samurai.fm shares it with you. It suits your daily mood; no matter what your taste you can find exactly what you are looking for. Thank you.
In this year’s selection you will find some of my favorite classics, new gems, a little soul, funky root blues and always much of the unknown. No Boney M ever. This year I focused on better delivery than last year’s mixes. I wanted to improve (if only slightly) on this aspect.

Real Grooves presents Gerald Mitchell
Gerald Mitchell born and raised in Detroit is a musician, producer, band leader, DJ and sonic visionary whose music has made a huge impact on Detroit house and techno. From his work on Underground Resistance's Interstellar Fugitives “Soul Saver” (aka UR 044) project to his Celestial Highways classic on Metroplex and early house production on Soul City, Gerald's music has always been recognized by it soulful strength. His work with Underground Resistance/DJ Rolando led to the anthem "Knights of the Jaguar" and now, Los Hermanos. Through Los Hermanos, he has brought his experience as a live musician into a group that expresses jazz fusion, gospel and funk into stunning electronic music.
With the new Los Hermanos release on the horizion "Descendants of the Resistance" Gerald has collaborated with many well known artists, djs, producers, and programmers from around the world and continues to be a leader in the electronic music scene worldwide.

Wah Wah 45's 10th Anniversary
A little late but better than never we have some live recordings from the Wah Wah 45's 10th anniversary event at The Scala in London.
First we have superfunk from The Apples of Israel. Over the past seven years the nine-strong instrumental group has been folding cuts and scratches from every imaginable source into Big Band blares and Middle Eastern elements on top of a raw and dirty funk base, baking a thick multi-layered sonic treat. They kick ideas up and down the stage in a torrent of Decks, Horns, Double Bass, Drums and Electronic Effects. No digital samplers, no guitars or keyboards and the sounds are reinvented on the spot.

Next up we have The Part-Time Heroes which is the band of two young musicians currently residing in a very fashionable part of North London. Although their names are not known to the masses, their music soon will be, as this part-time shop assistant and part-time sandwich deliveryman, plan to convert their part-time music careers into full-time employment.

Finally to round things off we have the very soulful sound of Ashley Thomas. His music can be characterised by a fusion of classic vocal hooks and syncopated rhythms held together by beautifully crafted song structures.

This mix will feature Clare Fischer's musical contributions as a strings / orchestral arranger, most notably his collaborations with Prince and related projects. However, Clare Fischer's musical output reaches FAR beyond this limited view, as he recorded over 50 jazz / latin jazz albums himself.
However, his arrangements for Prince were my introduction to Clare and his genius, and, through this mix, I want to give reverence to how Clare's significant contributions really transformed Prince's (and others) music into something even more transcendent and heavenly.]
