Scott Murphy's Christmas Mix 2011

Scott Murphy's Christmas Mix 2011

This year’s Christmas mix was made exclusively for samurai.fm. I went with this theme because over the year I am constantly amazed and continually impressed with every aspect this site. It is a small world and samurai.fm shares it with you. It suits your daily mood; no matter what your taste you can find exactly what you are looking for. Thank you.

In this year’s selection you will find some of my favorite classics, new gems, a little soul, funky root blues and always much of the unknown. No Boney M ever. This year I focused on better delivery than last year’s mixes. I wanted to improve (if only slightly) on this aspect.

So light up the yule log fire. Turn up the festive tunes. Sit back and enjoy long winter evenings of Christmas fuelled nonsense. A very Smurphy Christmas to you and thanks for listening.

Scott Murphy Christmas Mixes

S. Murphy lives in a cold part of Canada. Most nights during the holidaze you can find him inside his freezing basement office with a heater beside him listening, dancing and digging holiday music.

This is his best selection of Holiday music ever but that's not saying much because he has no real technical talent. Who cares - he understands what makes good music. If you can't stand Christmas music then you might like some of this.

It's Christmas music to get you in the mood for the holidays.

Smurphy's influence and Idol is the great Mr. Christmas of NYC.

A very Smurphy Christmas to you and remember the television is not a babysitter.

Jay Shepheard presents Samurai FM Mix June 2010

Jay Shepheard presents Samurai FM Mix June 2010

Jay Shepheard is a musician with a distinct and exciting sound in modern dance music. While the tempo remains steady and slower than the mainstream, the grooves he constructs are filled with a clarity and depth of feeling that invite you to move your body from the inside out. The music is of such a clever arrangement that it falls as comfortably into a set of new disco as it does deep house or even techno, and bridges the gap between old and new. Jay has several releases on Compost’s very highly respected Black Label imprint as well as some outings on other labels such as Dirt Crew. In addition he has begun a new label entitled Retrofit which will see more releases from him and other artists heading towards that Shepheard sound. Here’s some words from the man himself…

“I was well pleased when Samurai asked me to do a DJ mix for the site, after doing a lot of live shows and working on my own music over the past few years I've lately been getting back into DJing a lot more, out and about too. With this mix I've covered new and old releases together across all the genres I'm into and a few edited up versions of some classics in there too. Hope you dig :)”

Relish presents Headman History Mix

Relish presents Headman History Mix

Headman returns with a brand new astonishing album: 1923.

This marks the start of a new era for Robi Insinna, the man behind the Headman guise. It’s an incredible work of art - the forward-thinking, evolving sound of a true artist. It bridges the different sonic worlds Robi has created for himself over the years. From Headman and Manhead over the last decade this Swiss-born musical genius has been at the forefront of dance music.

A stellar selection of guests include the one and only Dieter Meier of Yello, Steve Mason of Beta Band and King Biscuit Time, Katrina Noorbergen of Australia’s Cassette Kids and Tara who worked with Robi on Catch Me, It Rough, and On and On.

From his remixes for Franz Ferdinand, The Gossip, Roxy Music, Zombie Nation and Inflagranti, to his worldwide popularity as a DJ, Headman continues to tour his diverse talents across the world spanning from hard hitting dancefloor tracks to slowed down disco; skilfully winding you through all that falls between.

'1923' is released from Headman's own label Relish today, May 3rd, 2010.

Parov Stelar & Band live @ Reworks 2009

Parov Stelar is Austria's newest music export miracle. Coming from the heart his music is an amalgam of jazz, breakbeat & funk filled sexiness, creativity and emotion. His third album titled 'Shine' shows diversity while the jazz is there, the soul is there but this time Parov explores older times, sampling alternative and uncommon styles from history.
