This month's offering from No Bones Records is a blast from the past. We've delved deep into the archives to bring you this mix from 1994, originally broadcast on London's legendary Energy FM pirate radio station.
Syzygy is the collaboration between No Bones chief Dominic Glynn and Justin Mackay. During the 1990s they produced a series of highly regarded EPs -for Rumour Records, Creation Records offshoot Infonet, and later for the classic techno Rising High label. It was here that they also produced their best known work - the seminal 'Morphic Resonance' album. Voted one of the greatest ambient albums of all time by Sound On Sound Magazine, Morphic Resonance showcased the more chilled-out side of their personalities, while their EPs tended to display a darker and more techno-oriented direction. Their music earnt them the support of such artists as T-Power, and the Future Sound Of London, while DJs Colin Favor, Colin Dale and John Peel championed their records on radio.
During their time with Rising High, Dominic & Justin recorded a number of mixes for Kiss FM and also the growing pirate radio scene in London. It is one of these pirate shows that we've revived for Samurai.
Energy FM broadcast regularly during the early to mid-nineties from a flat in Crystal Palace. One of the more eclectic stations of the time, Energy beamed its wide variety of house, techno, ambient and drum and bass music to London from a dingy bedroom somewhere above Macdonalds. Syzygy recorded an exclusive show for Energy and their mix includes some rare and unreleased tracks not heard since 1994.
Listen out for the following Syzygy tracks:
Psychotropic (released on Rising High)
Frontiers of the Mind (never previously released)
Organik (from Morphic Resonance, on Rising High)
Annunaki (released under the name Zendik, on Russ Gabriel's Inertia imprint)
Life For Ever (Released under the name Mind Control for Rumour Records)
Timestream (Rising High)
Check out No Bones Records where every now and then Syzygy re-surface with new material. More collaborations from Dominic and Justin are planned for the future, but in the meantime settle back with a little bit of techno nostalgia, courtesy of SamuraiFM.
