Insight with Taka Motomura
Taka first picked up a set of decks at age 17, and developed his turntable techniques as he honed his other talent - drumming. Fame beckoned in the mid 90's when his band Oblivion Dust, became the one of the hottest groups in Tokyo's burgeoning rock scene. 5 years later, Taka couldn't take his mind off the turntables, left the band scene and set about taking the club world by storm.

What began as Taka's small party in Roppongi's afterhours soon became one of Tokyo's biggest successes - Protocol, and with DJ Taka as its resident the event has grown from strength to strength. With the emphasis on the party and the quality of the music, Protocol became a legend in Tokyo, across Japan and internationally. Guests such as Jeff Mills, Daz Saund, BK, Stephane K, Nick Sentience, Alan Thompson, Steve Thomas, Simon Eve, Blue Peter, Guy Williams and Ed Real have graced its decks with Taka at Tokyo clubs -- Fura, Luners, The Liquid Room and WOMB. Protocol hosted the debut performance of legend Judge Jules in Japan, Jules rocked it, and Jules manager was so impressed with Taka's performance that he invited him to the UK twice to play with Jules at his residency - Serious at the Cross in 2002.

Taka recently launched a spectacular new club event 'Rodeo' which was a complete success - 1500 clubbers had a fantastic night courtesy of Stephane K, John Creamer, Guy Ornadel, Steve Thomas, Smokin' Jo, and of course Taka himself. Rodeo in Osaka featured another stellar lineup: Anthony Pappa, Dave Angel and Creamer & K.

Taka's power driven mix of house - US and UK progressive, trance, techno and hard house never fails to keep the masses feet driven firmly to the floor, and this was wholly evident at his performances at Serious, as well as Heaven, TheEnd, (Riot), Inverness, Bali, Taiwan and New Zealand. In Spring 2002, The Japanese Music Agency released "Protocol 2, Mixed by Taka" (the first in the series by Nick Sentience) and gave the whole of the Japanese scene the chance to hear Taka's superb style.

An alliance with top producer and remixer Stephane K has raised his production up a few notches and Taka has several forthcoming productions, most notably his remix of Japanese superband " X Japan" 's most famous track "Kurenai" . On the new X JAPAN remix album "TRANCE X" he joins names like UMEK, Valentino, Nuw Idol, Judge Jules and Stephane K (On Sale Now - Japan only).

Taka has not forgotten his percussive roots and can also be found as half of the Stephane K Live experience, adding live percussion to Stephane's blend of tribal deep funky progressive grooves. But when Taka takes to the decks he brings the funk with him and also brings together diverse and powerful tunes to deliver a style of tuff house that will bring back everything you loved about hard dance music, but sounds like nothing you've heard before.

2003 has been Taka's best year yet representing Global Underground in Japan he is resident at the popular club AIR in Tokyo. With events this year from the likes of Anthony Pappa, Ashley Casslle, Frederik and Global Underground's very own Andrew Archer, together they have rocked the venue all year long. Currently hosting his own show on samurai.fm his reputation is growing worldwide with recent dates in Finland, the UK and Spain
