FRIENDS AND FAMILY - WORLDWIDE

This collective is something of a global phenomenon when it comes to underground music. The night was created way back in the day by those Manchester heads at Grand Central and Fat City Records. Good time ethos was part of their feeling, friends of the label and minimal fuss made up their roster of live acts and DJs; it all grew from there. Since that time it has settled all over the world and made a big impression; From Melbourne to Moscow to New York City the vibe has been celebrated. Untouched by any corporate investment and fiercely independent, it represents all underground independent music and prides itself on making you move! Where else do you see DJ Spinna Vs. Keb Darge, Digital Mystikz & Guilty Simpson, J-Live & Hot Chip, Toddla T & Flying Lotus, Caspa & Rusko.

Friends + Family Presents Lukid Live @ Cargo | London

Friends + Family Presents Lukid Live @ Cargo | London

As a taste of what to expect at the samurai.fm showcase this Thursday at the Stag and Dagger Festival in London we are very pleased to present an exclusive live recording of Lukid at Cargo in London earlier this year. More info on one of our favourite producers at the moment below, for more details on the event visit www.samurai.fm/staganddagger

After failing to complete a thoroughly uninspiring music technology degree, a despondent Lukid returned to North London with some big decisions to make. Would he defy his tutor's doubts and pursue a career in the cut-throat music industry? Would he surrender to the inevitable and begin the dreaded job-hunt? Or would he follow in his grandfather's footsteps and live his life in the Socialist underworld, eating his lunch from a tin box and referring to his friends as comrades?

Lukid decided that these decisions could wait, and instead immersed himself in a world of daytime TV, late-night beat making, and 24-hour existential dread.

Inspired by obsessions with artists such as Can, Madlib, Theo Parrish and Autechre, Lukid spent many a lonely night hunched over his midi keyboard, layering up wilted beats and squeezing out woozy chords.

Too impatient to stick to one genre, Lukid twists his output through all forms of electronic music, from the squashed thump of Dilla inspired hip hop, to the rolling clunk of Detroit techno and the dusty soundscapes of Basic Channel.

So far he has released 2 albums and an EP on London's Werk Discs, earning support from DJ's including Benji B, Mary Ann Hobbes and Rob Da Bank, and praise from such luminaries as Matthew Herbert, Kode 9 and The Bug.
