Mob Records Presents Santos - Live @ Agatha, Italy
Born in 1971, Santos was weaned onto music at a very early age, growing up through the finest years of D-I-S-C-O and having a family who seemed to be very keen of this type of music, it wasn't long before a young Santos discovered his first musical inspiration - that of Georgio Moroder (producer of Donna Summer amongst many others cfool) and that was it, Santos had joined the world of the robots. Soon after this he got hooked on Chicago House, which led him to buy his first keyboard and by 1992 he had set up a small studio. 2 years later he made his first record, a year later he was signed to Mantra Vibes (a subsidiary label of Expanded Music) That record titled 'The Piano' created a huge amount of buzz amongst DJ's and labels through Santos' unique innovative production ideas. The next few years were a slew of releases culminating in 2001's UK Top 10 Hit 'Camels' A typically off the wall track supported by the likes of Pete Tong, The Jaxx, Steve Lamacq and Annie Nightingale this was followed by his debut artist album 'R U Shakedelic'.
In 2002 Mob Records picked up 'No Ticket No Run' (a track featured on Lee Coombs 'Perfecto Breaks' mix) This was one of Santos' first forays into breakbeats (highlighting his unique approach to production, the track is breaks that leads into a fierce 4-beat track) With Krafty Kuts on the mix, this single went down a storm and a grand relationship was born. Following 'No Ticket' in 2003 soon came '70's Sensation' a tripped out production featuring max'd out drums, church bells and psychedelic swoosh's noises a-plenty.
At the beginning of 2004 came new mixes of his previously released 'Sabot' which captivated not only the breaks massive but also the likes of Pete Tong and Seb Fontaine at Radio 1, highlighting the cross over appeal of his music.
His second album, 'Abrasive' was subsequently released to mass acclaim becoming one of the essential breakbeat releases of 2004.
Lucky fans in Tokyo will have the chance to see the return of Santos after his all conquering Fuji Rock performance this weekend when he plays at Hump @ Ageha on Saturday (8th Jan) and a secret Hump warm up event @ Legato, Shibuya on Friday (7th Jan). Don't miss it!
