James Lavelle live @ Pure, Tokyo

Mo' Wax label boss and UNKLE member James Lavelle recently DJed at local club Pure in Shibuya at a secret party. This exclusive mix in two parts was recorded live at the event.

UNKLE's debut album 'Psyence Fiction' was one of the nineties more controversial releases. Full of ambition and vision, self-indulgent but ahead of its time, the cast included the incredible DJ Shadow, Richard Ashcroft - at the height of the Verve's fame - and Mike D of the Beastie Boys. The album's highlights featured Thom Yorke's haunting 'Rabbit In Your Headlights' and, a then unknown, Badly Drawn Boy's cathartic 'Nursery Rhyme'. Wil Malone's strings and Futura 2000's artwork iced the cake.

Four years later James has been on the road with UNKLE featuring former Stone Roses vocalist Ian Brown, including a few recent visits to Japan, including gigs at Air and Womb. Meanwhile James' seminal label Mo' Wax is currently on hiatus as he and his partner Richard File focus their efforts on the UNKLE concept.

Look out for Lavelle's Fabric mix CD in the shops and the latest UNKLE album 'Never, Never, Land' and the DVD featuring the award winning 'Eye for an Eye' video amongst other things.
