DJ Food | Solid Steel: A 15 Year Retrospective

Designer of the Ninja Tune logo Strictly Kev (aka DJ Food) has been head of Ninja design since the label was formed. Now bringing his eastern interpretations to samurai.fm we are very pleased to present a T designed by one of the pivotal figures of electronic music design.

Strictly Kev has been involved with the multi-producer DJ Food project for 15 years and DJed the world over with fellow 'Fooders' Coldcut, PC and Solid Steel radio main man DK. He has produced tracks on various DJ Food albums from 'Recipe For Disaster' to the present day and mixed 100s of hours of audio for compilations, radio and the web using his 20 + years of DJ experience and vast record collection. He has also enjoyed a career as chief designer for Ninja Tune since the early 90's which runs parrallel with his music making. He is currently working on a series of EPs that will form the next DJ Food album and has moved into the audio visual medium to exploit his graphic skills further and compliment his DJ sets.

To welcome Kev's contribution to samurai.fm we are very pleased to present his 15 year retrospective of Ninja Tune's Solid Steel Sessions.

Imagine turning on the radio and every channel was playing Solid Steel from a different year, some stations bleeding through to others, but always in a good way. Strictly Kev presents his take on what Solid Steel means to him, his favourite moments and a look back at the last two decades of mixes. This is, of course, a daunting task and you get two hours hosted by Ken Nordine as he takes us around the Solid Steel Sound Museum in Kev's head. Keep up there at the back and no touching the exhibits ...
