Freshly brewed each and every month exclusively for Samurai FM, Simon Harrison's Nu-World Mix has been traversing the genres and breaking-down the barriers for 3 years now. Having begun life in March 2004, the Nu-World Mix continues to connect the dots between Soul, Jazz, Funk, House, Broken Beat, Drum and Bass, Hip-Hop and just about anything in between. Each edition is lovingly crafted by Simon's own fair hands and is infused with over 17 years of DJ, radio and record-collecting experience.
Like many of his peers, Simon was first infected with the DJ bug listening to the likes of Mike Pickering and Graeme Park at that most fabled and folkloric of Manchester's clubs, the Hacienda. In 1992, he crossed the Pennines to Leeds, where he began hosting a show on Dream FM - Yorkshire's biggest pirate radio station at the time - that would continue until the station's broadcasting days finally came to an end in 1996.
Having held down DJ residencies at a number of clubs in the Leeds area, including a 6-year stint at both "Rhythm Shower" and "Performance" from 1995 to 2001, Simon can currently be heard deejaying at "Abstract Soul" and "Flytime" in Leeds, and guesting at various spots throughout the UK and Europe.
You can also catch Simon weekly on the Basic Soul Show, which is broadcast via FM radio, podcast and various web-stations across the globe. Simon also dedicates much of his time to his ever popular and ever-expanding website,
www.basic-soul.co.uk, which features weekly mixes, up-to-the-minute album reviews, and interviews with both well-known and up-and-coming artists.
