mobilee records Presents...
mobilee records was launched in 2005 and quickly established itself as one of the brightest new stars in Berlin’s glittering galaxy of electronic music labels, producers and DJs. Founded and owned by Anja Schneider and Ralf Kollmann, the label boasts a sound that is simultaneously familiar and innovative. Based on the timeworn structures of house and techno, mobilee’s approach is a triple threat: its records reference vintage dancefloor minimalism, trade ideas with like-minded contemporaries, and suggest surprising new directions for a genre that has weathered both hype and backlash—yet keeps on clicking.

More than any particular stylistic hallmark, surprise is the defining characteristic of mobilee’s releases: rhythm becomes a game while drumbeats and acidic squiggles serve as playing chips, puzzle pieces, and rolling dice. mobilee’s palette is broad (and bright: you won’t find better sounding records, from the deepest sub-bass to the most crystalline highs), but no matter the sound source—from grinding machines to digital glitches—the groove is paramount. mobilee’s dubby, laid-back cuts are as quietly compelling as its anthems are immediate. Strings and rave stabs somersault through the grass; smoky voices throw shadows across the darkest corners of the club. Aspiring to be more than the manufacturer of simple DJ tools, mobilee publishes tracks full of finely turned hooks and hypnotic depths, the stuff of today’s charts and tomorrow’s classics.

In response to the rapid changes in the music industry, mobilee is committed to facing these new realities by continually re-inventing itself in order to most effectively adapt to technological and cultural transformations. Acting more and more as a fully-fledged company than as a record label in any traditional sense of the word, mobilee has expanded into the realms of booking and publishing while placing an explicit primacy on discovering and utilizing new and innovative modes of promoting and marketing its artists. Its commitment to developing its roster—all of whom are booked and managed by the label itself—as well as a focus on label showcases and event creation are just some examples of the unique, forward-thinking philosophy of mobilee and its attendant expansion as a music and entertainment enterprise.

In addition to Anja Schneider, mobilee artists include Sebo K, Pan-Pot, Miss Jools, GummiHz, Dan Curtin, Marcin Czubala, Hector, Ralf Kollmann and live acts Exercise One, And.id and Russ Gabriel alongside remixes and one-off contributions from Marc Antona, Daniel Stefanik, Vincenzo, Marco Resmann, Nick Curly, Efdemin, Christian Burkhardt, Deadbeat, Solomun, Cassy, Dinky, D´Julz, Magda, Jennifer Cardini & Shonky and many more.

mobilee records Presents Rodriguez Jr. live - mobilee & friends @ Sonar 2011

mobilee records Presents Rodriguez Jr. live - mobilee & friends @ Sonar 2011

Rodriguez Jr.’s highly anticipated debut album Bittersweet is finally due on the 26th, September 2011 - an impressive 11 track body of work that features some of the well renowned and loved Rodriguez Jr. sonic traits, as well as a lot of new and previously unchartered musical ground. It simultaneously presents techno, atmospheric dub, hypnotic, melancholy and hands down hedonistic music, and with a focus on exploring textures and moods, there is something here for everyone to get lost in.

Rodriguez Jr., aka Oliver Mateu, was originally introduced to music through radio in the south of France, where he closely followed a selection of 80s bands, as well as forming a strong love for synthesizers. It wasn’t long before he was inspired to start his own group with partner Giles Escoffier ‘The Youngsters’, which quickly signed to Laurent Garnier’s F-Communications, taking them to some of the biggest clubs and festivals around the world. After great success, the project was put on hold and over the last five years Mateu has been given the space to focus more on his solo work and finally the opportunity to create an album.

The main body of the production of the album 'Bittersweet' was carried out in Mateu’s hidden away studio in Belgium, filled with many loved pieces of analogue gear and synthesizers. Ranging from the Roland TR909, for a classic house drum feel, to the Korg MS10 for dirtier sounds, and a selection of Roland keyboards to choose from, “I am definitely a synth fetishist! Ahaha!” (Rodriguez Jr.). Each has contributed in Rodriguez Jr.’s quest to create an artistic project of the highest quality and creativity that he is capable of, with outstanding results.

A masterpiece that truly reflects the Rodriguez Jr. of today, it also offers us enough variety and surprise to keep us inspired by this ever-evolving artist. Reflecting on the tracks Bittersweet refers to the contradictory forces at play within the music – it may be beautiful and it may be sweet – but be careful of the party animal it can unleash both in the creator and within all of you present on the dancefloor!

Here is the stunning recent live set by Rodriguez Jr. for those who cannot wait for this release!
