Rancho Relaxo Allstars @ Club Transmediale 06

Rancho Relaxo Allstars @ Club Transmediale 06

The Allstars are an ambient electronic supergroup with campy, country overtones. Established primarily as a live performance outfit, there are only two records in their discography; 'Volume One - Higiene Mental' (1996) and 'Volume two - Live at the Luv Parade' (1998), both released on Disco-B.

Founded by techno legend Abe Duque in 1989, the variable line-up's original members included John Selway, Mika Vainio, Prozac, Stroboscopic. Susanne Brokesch, Szostek, Taylor Deupree, and they have become renowned for stomping ambient howdowns around the globe. They throw down a weird mix of electronic, country, ambient, disco, karaoke, improvisation with guitars, 303s, Chinese harps, and all sorts of other exotic things, including Serotonin Records' Selway jigging on the violin.

The regrouped Ranchos are back in the saddle again in 2006. This time around it will be Abe Duque, John Selway, Prozac, Cle Kahlke, and Jochen Reiter (plus honorary Ranchos riding in for the occasion!) on their 'Yes-Men' European tour to promote their new album 'The Answer Is Always Yes'. Get ready for anything. Hrrrccckkh-ptoo.

Pier Bucci @ Clubtransmediale 06

Pier Bucci @ Clubtransmediale 06

Since relocating to Berlin, Chilean born Pier Bucci travels back and forth bridging the music scenes of two continents along with fellow musicians Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano or Martin Schopf. In his 10 years of prolific music making, Bucci has as a solo artist and in his many collaborative projects (with brother Andres, with Daniel Nieto as Skipsapiens, with Luciano as Monne Automne, with Argenis Brito as Mambotur), established himself as a leading figure within the Chilean electronic scene. The smooth flow of Bucci's music contradicts its multi-layered complexity, elegantly welding his Chilean and German influences into a Microhouse structure.

Henrik Schwarz @ Club Transmediale 06

Henrik Schwarz @ Club Transmediale 06

Henrik Schwarz (Moodmusic/Sunday Music) is a veteran of the German music scene and Germany's deepest House producer to date. In his early dj-days he played all major clubs in southern Germany. In the mid-nineties he started producing his own material. The option to use laptops instead of records took Henrik one step further, playing dj-sets with computers long before anybody else was doing it. His grooves sound like a band jamming, doing some serious jazz business, but not forgetting the dancefloor aspect. His latest record Leave My Head Alone Brian (2005) brought him huge international acclaim. He is co-founder of the Sunday Music label.

Like A Tim @ Clubtransmediale 06

Through the looking glass of his eclectic and cheeky electronics, Tim van Leijden looks back at the eighties and finds - Disco-Acid. His bumping, bizarre sounds leave heads nodding and shaking everywhere while the boy wonder looks on with a demented smile.

Leijden got interested in electronic music when he was about ten years old, hooked by the electro-pop that appeared around that time. Later, hip-hop music like the Ultramagnetic MCs, Public Enemy, and BDP had a big impact on him.

He's been releasing abstract Techno and House for 14 years. The thirteenth year was celebrated with a special release in 2004 Like a Tim 13 - 1991-2004. His first record was on the Dutch Seesaw records, an early nineties house label, followed by long associations with Miss Djax's (Saskia Slegers) Djax-Up-Beats, and Digital Hardcore Recording's Geist Records. Leijden started his own imprint in 2003, Like Records, distributed by Clone. Like Records has six Like A Tim 12's and two Like A Tim LPs on its catalogue to date. His tracks also appear on label compilations of Rephlex and Studio!K7 and he has remixed the likes of Speedy J, Robert Armani, Mike Dunn, Hardfloor and DMX crew.

Luci @ Clubtransmediale 06

Luci @ Clubtransmediale 06

Luci (Mutek _Rec, Morris Audio City Sport) is a new project for long time collaborators Guillaume Coutu Dumont (Egg, Flabbergast, Racam and nAnalog) and David Fafard (nAnalog).

Based in Montréal, Dumont and Fafard also work together in nAnalog, a video art project exploring the image-sound relationship through multi media and installation. nAnalog has collaborated with artists such as Crackhaus, Senor Coconut (Mutek 2003) and Monolake (Mutek 2005).

Both come from strong percussion and composition backgrounds, though Fafard has made a name for himself primarily as a video artist, providing the Montréal Techno community with visuals for several years. He is also involved in theatre productions (What Remains, Danceworks/Louise Bedard Danse Production, 2005), and other video projects.

Dumont was until recently was known primarily as a percussionist with an interest in electro-acoustic compostion. He has extensive experience as a session musician playing in both far flung festivals like the St Louis Jazz festival in Senegal, and events closer to home: Mutek and the International Jazz Festival of Montréal. Dumont has since broadened the frame of his work to laptop music. He is one half of the well-known duo Egg.

The Luci project uses the same set of tools cultivated by Egg, which were developed with experimental leanings, and an interest in danceable Dub and Microhouse blended with acoustic instrumentation. But while Egg tends toward the introspective, Luci is known for hypnotic, funky floor fillers. Elastic rhythms and complex structures, noirish beats and ornate samples come together in beautifully produced tracks.
