A child of the 70's, i got into music from a very early age and by 1980 was buying 2 chart 7" singles a week with my pocket money, around 1983/84 my older brother started making tdk tapes up recording from stations like jfm and solar and the music really made an impression on me, i had the odd black music single which charted but around 1985 i started to attend a youth club disco every monday in chadwell heath where the dj used to do live mixing with all the latest 12" releases, by this time my pocket money and a paper round made my financial state a good one and i started buying 12" singles, the likes of conway brothers, d train, paul hardcastle, cherelle and such like and around the same time along with a friend we ventured out to do our first gigs at another local youth club in hornchurch.
Not long after that my family moved from the inner city rat race to the east coast and my short dj career came to a untimely end, in the late 80's i met a couple of like minded guys who were into black music and my interest once again grew and i was buying records like they were going out of fashion things like keith sweat, bobby brown, al b sure and the new fangled sound of " new jack swing" or "swingbeat" over the next few years i got right into that sound and around 91 time started doing the odd show on various radio stations, continued to do that on and off to around 97/98 when myself and andy h off the back of doing some rather succesful 70s nights in an out of town pub, decided to have a crack at the local club circuit playing modern quality soulful dance music and r&b, we played in one way or another nearly every local venue and the odd mobile night out too, i decided to hang up my headphones in around 2002 but the lure of more radio work came calling and i started doing shows again over the next few years which i enjoyed very much.
Then the biggest change happened to me i stumbled on a place describled by my brother as the sims but with real people called second life, it didnt take me long to find my feet in this very addictive world and in turn found out it was possible to dj live in this crazy online world, so for over 2 years now i have been filling the airwaves of second life with sweet sounds of soul funk boogie and northern soul as well as even some good rare 60s mod & freakbeat nights too, i have absolutely loved my time in second life so far and i have come in contact and made many good friends in countries all over the world ,i had been running a successful club called "the original soul rebels h.q" and i take the name of the show from that we had live dj's performing each week and many people stop by our club and enjoy the music and banter and a great time is usually had by all, yes if the concept of second life sounds strange to you i would say this that its just like being in a real club but without leaving your pc screen and not paying over the top prices for drinks lol
THE ORIGINAL SOUL REBELS SHOW
The show is made up of music ranging from in some cases the mid 60's to current day on the jazz funk, soul, disco and boogie tip and also featuring the odd 2 or 3 northern soul tunes which i have gathered up over the years from time to time... in the main i like to keep it uptempo and funky, some you know and i hope some you don't and maybe in some cases some you ain't heard for donkies years lol
The thing i like about JFSR since i was introduced to it, is the knowledge and enthuisasm shown by the loyal listeners and fellow dj's in the chatroom, i would like to thank Andy H for introuducing me to the world of JFSR and a grateful thanks to Dave (morpher) Marley for giving me the platform to play you guys some great black music :)
The osr motto is "music is the key of life and we're gonna play it"
