CTM - CLUB TRANSMEDIALE
Festival for Adventurous Music and Related Visual Arts

CTM (club transmediale), Berlin's prominent International Festival for Adventurous Music and Related Visual Arts, titled by many as Berlin's best pop and music event, is dedicated to contemporary electronic, digital and experimental music, as well as the diverse range of artistic activities in the context of sound and club culture.

Since 1999 CTM takes place annually parallel to Berlin's festival for art and digital culture transmediale. Today the joint festival of CTM and transmediale is one of the most comprehensive and outstanding events reflecting the cultural relevance of new technologies and digital culture in Europe and the world.

CTM.10 - OVERLAP
// January 28 - February 7, 2010
// Various venues, Berlin

The 11th edition of CTM, is on from January 28th to February 7th 2010. Under the title OVERLAP - Sound & Other Media, the festival explores the interfaces between music and other creative and economic fields. CTM.10 takes a critical look at the opportunities and risks of developments where media and creative disciplines meld increasingly together, and where previously fixed roles are now in flux. The discussion on how mutations in music culture should be framed continues.

Neat routine has never been CTM's style, and in 2010, with new themes, new partners and new venues at Alexanderplatz in Berlin's city centre, it will again be entering unknown territory. The festival's blend of club nights, performances and concerts will be staged at the shiny, newly reopened WMF club, with performances by exciting contemporary artists from undefined convergence zones between out-pop, experimental music, noise, art and media technologies. The daytime program will run nearby at the cultural centre .HBC with a dense series of lectures, workshops, panel discussions and installations, and featuring the new festival café as a central meeting place for festival visitors. And, not least, improved transport connections with our paralleling sister festival, transmediale, which takes place from February 2 to February 7, 2010. A joint program featuring top-class audiovisual projects at Haus der Kulturen der Welt and the joint approach to the transmediale award emphasize the increasingly close ties between the two festivals.

Gas - Wolfgang Voigt Live @ Club Transmediale 2009

Wolfgang Voigt, the Cologne-based co-founder of the Kompakt label empire, is behind Gas, his best-known project. Voigt was a prolific producer of seminal German techno in the 90s under a huge number of aliases, some very well-known including Mike Ink, Blei, Love Inc. and Grungerman, others fleeting or one-off, like Panthel, Riss and Strass. He has released music on a wide range of labels including Warp, Harvest, Raster-Noton and Force Inc. but is probably best known for his ambient project Gas, and as co-founder of the hugely influential minimal house label Kompakt along with Michael Mayer and Jurgen Paape.
