samurai.fm presents Oli Furness

A rocking Hip House mix from Oli Furness to promote his new EP Death Of A Musicbox out on Recore Records at the end of this month.

Oli Furness - an artist who has been steadily releasing his 90s infused house tracks on various UK labels over the past few years and developed a refined, mature style of production that draws on classic House and Garage tropes.

Furness utilizes drum machines, outboard synths, mixers and effects units to create a warm analogue sound that reflects his involvement in the long running Manchester House scene. Oli has been heavily involved with the Acid House movement over the past decade and subsequently has become a member of the infamous Hacienda Nightclub booking agency.

Scott Murphy's Christmas Mix 2011

Scott Murphy's Christmas Mix 2011

This year’s Christmas mix was made exclusively for samurai.fm. I went with this theme because over the year I am constantly amazed and continually impressed with every aspect this site. It is a small world and samurai.fm shares it with you. It suits your daily mood; no matter what your taste you can find exactly what you are looking for. Thank you.

In this year’s selection you will find some of my favorite classics, new gems, a little soul, funky root blues and always much of the unknown. No Boney M ever. This year I focused on better delivery than last year’s mixes. I wanted to improve (if only slightly) on this aspect.

So light up the yule log fire. Turn up the festive tunes. Sit back and enjoy long winter evenings of Christmas fuelled nonsense. A very Smurphy Christmas to you and thanks for listening.

Scuba Jungle Set - Live @ Berghain 2 Years of Substance Party

Scuba Jungle Set - Live @ Berghain 2 Years of Substance Party

Ahead of the release of Scuba's 'Triangulation' (Interpretations) the Hot Flush label boss and Substance promoter provides us with an exclusive Jungle set recorded live at his incredible 2 Years of Substance party held at Berlin's techno mecca, Berghain, back in July.

Scuba, aka Paul Rose, has been at the forefront of the dubstep scene since its birth. Having founded the innovative and influential Hotflush Recordings label in 2003, he has continually brought colour and depth to an advancing genre, expanding its sonic structure and increasing its influence on the wider electronic scene.

Following the first Scuba LP 'A Mutual Antipathy' (2008) which was remixed by Marcel Dettman, Martyn and Surgeon, 'Triangulation' (2010) took the Scuba sound to a new level. The collision of dubstep and techno has produced startling music from a wide range of producers in the last few years, none more than Scuba, and that has been well documented.

For 'Triangulation' (Interpretations), to be released on November 15th, new allure is breathed into Scuba’s originals by the likes of Will Saul & Mike Monday, FaltyDL, Deadbeat, Joe, Deadboy and Scuba himself.

Straight Goods Afrika Bambaataa Special

Straight Goods Afrika Bambaataa Special

During this spring tour, Afrika Bambaataa stopped by Vancouver BC and sat down with Straight Goods Radio hosts Jay & Flipout to talk about Hip Hop. What would Hip Hop be without Afrika Bambaataa, one third of the holy trinity of the culture alongside Grandmaster Flash and Kool Herc? Bam with the Zulu Nation is the most influential and important organization in Hip Hop culture. Bambaataa spoke with the ease and the confidence of a tribal figure head that he is and declared that in 2010, Hip Hop is alive. I highly suggest you have a pen and pad by your side as you listen because he gives a musical history lesson from a primary source point of view. To put it simply, he was there in the beginning. I'm talking about the very beginning, when Hip Hop was born. He's the Godfather of Hip Hop, Afrika Bambaataa.

Rock it don't stop!

February 2012 radio show with Rob Jones, Lee Vincent and Pete Schofield spinning the very best in rare and classic Soul. www.TheSoulGuy.com
Well, it's a special alright: a tribute to a style called the 'hip house', late 8Ts dance music originally from Chicago, a moment in time that didn't last that long eventually... Energetic, entertaining, proper dance floor style! You remember the 'running man' move? Maybe this'll remind you!
Hip house merged hip hop lyrics with a house beat, and soul samples were sprinkled on top.
Just when you think you've had enough of this style, we'll change it to more of the acid, with Fast Eddie delivering a true classic, the "Acid Thunder".
It wouldn't be a Wahoo! show without some added versatility, thus the mix finishes off with psychedelic jazz. Enjoy folks and please bear with the technical side of the mixing - it's for home listening, not a club mix :)
Listen the new Apparel Music Radio show Episode046: Stefano Esposito!
After the debut, he recived a discographical offer by ''Apparel Music'' and
with ''Under The Sea EP'' ( Again, supported by Magazine and important djs
like Seth Troxler, Ellen Allien, Richie Hawtin, Brothers Vibes, , Steve
Lawler) he reaches the 1st position of the best new albums (January- 2012).
Being in the Dj Sneak's top 10, of course is an important goal that makes him
proud of himelf.
Welcome back for another edition of the show - 2 hours of oldies done in a slightly different way. While I think about it, please feel free to check out my new web site for the online radio station that will launch in the New Year - it's called Smile 101 and we're bringing back that feel good factor to radio! WhatYouWant Radioshow#40

  • New
  • Eclectic

A Christmas gift to you from WhatYouWant Radio - radioshow number 40 and a best of 2011 to boot! Putting aside the absence of the new website (damn you iTunes and Soundcloud, for not yet talking to each other!) it's time to say: another year, another best of. Well, there's tons of lists about of the things that you should have been listening to this year but really, there's only one WhatYouWant Radio rundown. Tons of great tunes for you, not so much to write really - best let the music speak for itself. James Blake, Holy Other, Bon Iver, Jonathan Wilson and Laura Marling all bring enough downtempo to get you chilled before Washed Out, Toro Y Moi and the marvellous Gay Marvine bring us back up (by way of Beirut and Destroyer). Once we are up we are up, and the 6th Borough Project, James Johnson, Erdbeerschnitznel all take us to the plateau of beats - Matthew Kyle, the Roots and the year's most intersting producer, Clams Casino. Don't stop there though: 2011's best pop still to come: Little Dragon, Games, Metronomy, TV on the Radio, Cut Copy and the Smith Westerns are all in for your listening pleasure. Then to finish there's a comedy cover from the Hackney Colliery Band, a computer game tune from the National and a swooning album closer from The Phoenix Foundation. All that's missing is a track from the man behind WYW Radio's album of the year - Raphael Saadiq. If you can't enjoy this, tsk, this world is not for you. Happy Christmas, pleasureable listening!
