Glade Festival June 2011

Glade Festival June 2011

As Galde announce their new site we present you with two hot new sets from Subhead and ANXST who will both be appearing on the Overkill Stage at the 3 day festival in June.

Glade can confirm the new site for 2011’s event will be Houghton Hall in Norfolk. Last week the trustees of Mansion House, Biggleswade decided they did not want the event to take place on their site, despite contracts being signed off. Luckily Lord Cholmondeley who owns the estate at Houghton Hall and the surrounding estate has welcomed Glade and this is where the event will take place in 2011 and for the foreseeable future.

Subhead

Shrugging off self-promotion and magazine coverage has only added to Subhead’s anonymity while intense live-performances have built devoted followings from across the globe.

“Underground and as tough and loud as Leach and Wells are known, Subhead‘s art attack breaks the dancefloor standards with everything between sampladelic freestyle and raucous bottomline Techno. Unbelievable while totally understandable.” Tresor Berlin

Subhead will be performing live on the Overkill Stage.

ANXST

ANXST’s genre transcending dexterity takes in the experimental dubstep trip of Vex’d, industrial techno of Surgeon, the future glitch of Flying Lotus and the scattered experimental drum and bass of Amon Tobin. His true strength, though, lies in the crescendos of layered texture, noise and re-sampled sampling.

ANXST will be performing on the Overkill Stage

The Glade lineup currently includes TRENTEMøLLER, ADAM BEYER, SLAM, PAUL RICH, ANDREW WEATHERALL, PHOTEK, LONDON ELEKTRICITY, DIRTYPHONICS, MAN WITH NO NAME, 2 BAD MICE, ED RUSH, UNTOLD, plus many, many more.

Sick Moves Radio | Dj Romanowski live in San Francisco 7.24.10

Dj Romanowski is a San Francisco legend, rocking shows back in the 90's with Dj Shadow, Cut Chemist and the legendary Future Primitive crew. He's an extremely diverse DJ, with roots in funk, disco, reggae, and hiphop, and his own production work has won world-wide acclaim. His 'Party in My Pants' album and recent studio albums with Walter Earl as Royal Earl, and local MC's Deuce Eclipse and P.E.A.C.E. on the O.P.C. project, showcase his desire to further the underground hiphop & funk movement in the Bay Area.  Recorded live July 24th, 2010 @ Madrone Lounge, in San Francisco.

Jazztronik

Jazztronik

Jazztronik is the amorphous freestyle project of Nozawa [Yuuta]. Since 1998, Jazztronik has released 2 albums and 2 e.p.s off the indie label, Flower Records. In 2001 Jazztronik released the album 'Inner Flight' on the UK label 'Counterpoint'. Nozawa has also produced many artists including Mondo Grosso, bebe, Sandii and the Gospellers, and remixed tracks for Bird, M-Flo, Modaji, London Electricity (aka Izit) and many others.

Following the release of the album 'Set Free' on Flower Records in April 2003, Jazztronik released the e.p. Horizon in June of the same year and his breathtaking musicality at the one man live show. His 12" 'Dance with me/Samurai' found itself into the record boxes of Dj's such as Danny Krivit and Louie Vega and his next 12" on Chez Music wil be released in Europe and the U.S.

Following the release of the 'Seven Colours' album and maxi-single 'Madrugada/Tiger eyes' on Tokuma Japan Communications in 2004, the future looks bright for Jazztronik.

Despite its music-label-like appearance The SCR is a rather situational and fluid project. It's very different from membership-based group or organization since it's intentionally ephemeral and not directed towards any fixed identity (how much of a difference the project can encompass - that is its hidden ambition). Therefore its identity entirely depends on the project (and its collaborators) The SCR organizes at a particular moment. So far the most stable element of the project is its name.

These are a couple of descriptions of The SCR used for different occasions:

"The So-Called Records is an open initiative of remixing, reissuing and redistributing of data."

"The So-Called Records considers everything as a database and makes conceptual and entertaining cuts making no difference between professional, amateur, high, low, global, local, etc. They consider everything as endless process of remixing and translation while adapting the idea of 'open source' to analogue reality." (Lucy E. Smith)

Zilvinas is a resident DJ of The So-Called Records NYC promoting the soulful sound of house and broken beats throughout the city's best parties, lounges, loft spots and art events. "These music and [video] art fusions consists of a DJ setup, replete with installations of moving images onscreen and a full dancefloor." (BPM mag)

Zilvinas is also a founder of Bagpak Music publishing company celebrating the latest 12" release - Overtone "Give It Again" with remixes by Inverse Cinematics, Dither Down & Dublicate - on a well respected NYC Redbud label. Advanced copies of which are being played by Gilles Peterson, Bugz In The Attic, Francois K, Jazzanova, Andrew Jervis, J-Boogie, Karl Injex and many others.

Universal Vibes presents Jimpster (Freerange Records)

Universal Vibes presents Jimpster (Freerange Records)

Jamie is a musician/producer/dj based in East London. He is co-founder of the Freerange Records label which was established as an outlet for his own Jimpster and Audiomontage productions in 1996. Rapidly forging a name for himself as a leading producer in the burgeoning nu-jazz, downtempo and jazzy breaks scenes, he soon found himself remixing and producing for the likes of Lamb, Airto Moriera and Coldcut.

His 'Initial' and 'Martian Arts' EPs brought acclaim from such luminaries as Mixmaster Morris, Tom Middleton and Kirk Degiorgio and with the props came opportunities for collaborations and DJ gigs which further helped to establish the Jimpster moniker. His debut album, 'Messages From The Hub' successfully crossed many boundaries with radio support coming from Patrick Forge and Gilles Peterson as well as Mike Chadwick's Cutting Edge show on Jazz FM. His follow up LP 'Domestic Science' was released to critical acclaim last year with singles 'Deep Down' and 'State Of Mind' getting heavy rotation from Robert Elms on his BBC London Live morning show.

Jamie is also a member of highly acclaimed live outfit The Bays, who's recent performances on John Peel sessions confirming them as one of the most important live acts around today. Their spontaneous and totally improvised gigs have been building up a buzz with recent headlining gigs including many of the years biggest festivals such as Glastonbury, The Big Chill, Womad, Lowlands and many others.

Blue Solstice: an Anthem in a Vacuum

  • Eclectic
  • Broken
  • Abstract
  • 1h 04m
Epic, wistful, sometimes even solemn cross-genre drama in 4 movements and tempos (0/140/105/180). An opus magnum of sorts. Mixed on the eve of summer solstice 2010.

To those who care to check this one out - I humbly suggest listening to it in one sitting, and preferably not as a background music, but rather while paying attention. It was conceived and played with an idea of dramatic development in mind, really as a kind of a trip, with a lot of details and layers... It's neither a dance mix nor a chill-out relaxation session, rather an integral and even conceptual piece that - hopefully - tells a story and is "more than sum of its parts", if you know what I'm sayin'.
