The irreverent heirs of Lee Scratch Perry, brought up from an early age on the most rootsy rock steady, High Tone's universe has expanded over the last ten years, mixing strings, percussions and samples, to become a fully blossomed reference on the French dub scene. Rather than machine-based blending, the five Tones opt for a choice of live guitars / bass / drums / DJ / keyboards, in order to provide their sound with an organic texture.

High Tone have embedded their dub with sonic distortions, hip-hop gimmicks, down tempo rhythms, creating a wholly original sound. The five Lyon lads take the listener on a vivid trip, a bizarre interface between tradition and modernity.

Leading up to the party we will be bringing you mixes and features from those artists and for the first installment we present Rob Sparx & Robin Beats.
 
Rob Sparx
As well as being an excellent Double Bass, Piano and Guitar player Rob has been DJ’ing and writing dance music since the late 90s. His first release in Jan 2004 "Rob the Builder - Can you fix it” was the start of a wave of drum n bass releases on Twisted Individuals label's Grid, Zombie and Up Yours. Rob has also released DNB on Formation records (DJ SS), Propaganda (Generation Dub), Vibez (Subject13) and Z-Audio. Never one to be pigeonholed Rob soon experimented with other genres producing breaks, house/electro and dubstep (his main style now) most of which was released by labels associated with Z-Audio Distribution. Rob also writes trance for Armin Van Buren's Armada imprint and has his own label “Migration Recordings” with a Sub Label called “Sour Grapes”. 2009 saw the release of Rob’s superb 2cd album “Trooper” to critical acclaim which has made him a main player on the dubstep scene.

Robin Beats
Formerly known as the Ginger Groover, the Groovepressure resident comes tough with his new breakbeat / dubstep moniker Robin Beats.

Mike Rigler was born in 1981 lives and works in Linz, Austria. As a breaks DJ and producer he loves a wide range of music and turning that into happy faces on the dancefloor. He's as comfortable with big brasses as he is with dirty wobbling basslines. This sums up the performance at the Reworks festival last year, but his work goes on with acclaimed releases on Parov Stelar's label 'Etage Noir Records'. Also look out for his new live project called 'DI-Collective' coming to a stage near you soon.

It all kicked off on 12th March 2010 - and every Friday thereafter for 16 weeks will witness London’s club scene get turned on its head as Elephant and Castle’s The Coronet Theatre welcomes Together for its long anticipated return to the world’s clubbing capital. Together will be the freshest new night to emerge this year and for 16 weeks only will twist and turn your senses in a celebration of all things electronic and alternative every Friday night!

The Coronet is a venue to rival any club in London. With a capacity of 2,600 spread over three floors it boasts the biggest main room dancefloor in the capital, not to mention the mind-boggling state of the art sound system. The Together nights will welcome huge and diverse line-ups with every event in an outstanding, underrated venue.

The Dub Pistols were born in 1996 when Barry - who has also remixed tracks forthe likes of Moby, Limp Bizkit and Filter - solidified his beat-heavy sound.Later that same year, he signed three EPs to England1s Concrete label (There's Gonna Be A Riot, Westway and Best Got Better) and hasn't looked back.

With the Dub Pistols' Geffen debut, Six Million Ways to Live, the follow-up to 1998's critically-acclaimed Point Blank, Ashworth draws upon his broadest musical palette to date. Along with bandmates bassist Jason O'Brien and DJ Stix (who joined the band in 1998), Six Million Ways to Live is a fusion of sounds that are built on tough breakbeats that are bathed with hip-hop, ska, reggae, punk and soul.

"The last record was a series of tracks that were really for the dancefloor," explains Barry. "On Six Million Ways to Live, we wanted to work on a much bigger canvas...We worked more with horns and melody and really got into different types of samples and time signatures."

Rappers Planet Asia and Sight Beyond Light, featuring long-time collaborator T.K. Lawrence, lend their vocal skills and lyrical wisdom to the Pistols' complex musical gumbo. Also in the mix are veteran vocalists Terry Hall of The Specials on "Problem Is" and Horace Andy of Massive Attack ["Crazy"], who contribute heavy ska sensibilities recalling the second and third waves of the modern ska invasion.

Although critics and other musical pundits may twist themselves into knots figuring out where to place the Dub Pistols, Barry Ashworth and company are sure to stay a step ahead and take aim at any boundary or definition placed on their sound and probably throw a turntable or two at it like a Fender stuffed up the tweeter of a Marshall stack.
